The Battle of the new mascaras

* AD - Products mentioned in this post were gifted to me for a review by notino.co.uk

We’re only in February and we’ve already seen so many great releases. There are also quite a few new perfumes launching, and I wholeheartedly hope we’ll get to explore some of them soon. What seems to be pouring out of the “newness pipeline,” though, are mascaras. L’Oréal, Maybelline, YSL, Lancôme… there’s a lot happening. Today, I’ll be reviewing the last two potential high-end favourites.

The new Lash Idôle Curl Goddess mascara caught my attention the moment I started looking into what’s new in the makeup world. The packaging is a work of art, and the twisted wand? Incredible and truly unique. I feel like Lancôme has always experimented with different applicator shapes, and this is something only they could come up with.

The mascara comes in a full-size 8 ml packaging or a smaller 4 ml tube, perfect for a makeup bag full of travel favourites. As mentioned, the wand is very distinctive—curled and twisted, with plenty of bristles. This design allows most lashes to be coated with the very first coat, so there’s no real need to layer excessively. The bristles separate the lashes beautifully, creating impressive volume without adding too much thickness. The curling effect is also noticeable, although my lashes curl quite easily on their own. Overall, the result reminds me of doll-like lashes, but in a more natural way, if that makes sense.

One small downside is that, due to the thickness of the wand, application can be a bit messy at first. I’m hoping that with regular use this will improve as I get more used to navigating such a substantial brush. Once applied, though, there’s no smudging, and the mascara feels very comfortable on the lashes—even with my sensitive eyes.

I was initially more reserved about the new YSL Lash Latex mascara. Don’t get me wrong, I love YSL, but since Lash Clash is my all-time favourite, I didn’t think they could release anything I’d like more. It turns out I was wrong, because this lengthening mascara is truly impressive.

The effect is different from Lash Clash, but I absolutely love it. The mascara comes in an 8.5 ml tube, which is slightly more generous than many standard high-end mascaras. The wand is silicone and flexible, making it easy to reach all of my lashes. I usually apply two coats to achieve a fairly dramatic look. It doesn’t clump the lashes together—just a touch, enough to enhance the overall volume—and it adds noticeable length as well.

What really won me over is how comfortable this mascara feels. It’s pleasant during application and continues to feel light and comfortable throughout the day.

The year has started strong with both of these mascaras, and I’m really excited to see what else is coming down the line!
